Erdrich USA, Inc., a leading manufacturer of brake pistons for the automotive industry, is seeking a highly motivated Maintenance Controls Engineer to support and improve our automated manufacturing operations.

The Maintenance Controls Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving production equipment, automation systems, PLC controls, and facility electrical systems to ensure maximum machine uptime, production efficiency, product quality, and workplace safety.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to work with advanced manufacturing equipment, Siemens PLC systems, and continuous improvement projects in a fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment.


Essential Job Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Reliability

  • Troubleshoot and repair production equipment, facility systems, and electrical equipment.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
  • Ensure maximum machine uptime and operational reliability.
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Support machine availability and continuous improvement efforts throughout the facility.

PLC Programming & Automation

  • Troubleshoot Siemens S7 PLC control systems.
  • Modify and create basic PLC programs for equipment improvements and production requirements.
  • Support machine automation upgrades and equipment optimization projects.
  • Analyze and resolve control system issues to minimize downtime.

Electrical Systems

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Perform electrical modifications and upgrades to machinery and fixtures.
  • Ensure electrical systems comply with company standards and applicable regulations.
  • Conduct measurements and testing according to OSHA, NFPA 70 (NEC), and NFPA 70E requirements.

Mechanical Systems

  • Perform basic mechanical maintenance and repairs.
  • Read and interpret hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Support maintenance activities involving presses, conveyors, assembly equipment, and industrial machinery.

Maintenance Planning & Inventory

  • Maintain spare parts inventory and electrical component stock.
  • Assist with ordering and managing maintenance-related materials.
  • Coordinate and oversee maintenance work completed by outside vendors and contractors.
  • Support annual inspections, calibrations, and regulatory maintenance requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in Continuous Improvement (CIP) projects.
  • Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Support machine modifications and production improvements.
  • Recommend solutions to improve efficiency, quality, safety, and operating costs.

Documentation & Training

  • Accurately document maintenance activities using SAP and company maintenance systems.
  • Maintain equipment repair and inspection records.
  • Train and mentor apprentices and maintenance personnel.
  • Provide technical support to production employees and supervisors.

Qualifications

Education

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field.

Preferred:

  • Additional training in Industrial Automation or Controls Engineering.

Experience

  • 3+ years of maintenance engineering experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting industrial automation systems.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting Siemens S7 PLCs.
  • Experience supporting high-volume production equipment.

Technical Skills

  • Siemens S7 PLC programming and troubleshooting
