Utilities Superintendent - Dublin, GA

Reports to: Power and Utilities Manager

This position will serve as a first-line supervisor directing the work of shift operators and trades staff in Woodyard, Sludge Processing Building, and Water Treatment Facility. This position is also responsible for the upkeep and maintenance on the Mill’s various settling ponds.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Oversight and Management of all Auxiliary Operator 2’s (AO2) as well as all Woodyard Operators, including, but not limited to:
    1. Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
    2. Identifies staff development and training needs and ensures training is resourced, offered and obtained.
    3. Supervises the training of steam and /or electric plant operators and assistant operators.
    4. Supervises the training on water treatment operations and testing.
    5. Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence relative to the work.
    6. Checks daily logs to determine proper operation of equipment.
    7. Lays out and inspects completed work on various equipment.
    8. Requisitions supplies, materials and repair parts.
    9. Assists in the preparation of daily and monthly reports of chemical consumption, water treatment efficiency, power plant operation, power usage and costs.
    10. Assist in process modifications.
    11. Assist in policy development on proper procedure for writing, testing, implementing auditing and modification of current and future SOP’s.

  • Oversight and Management in support of Maintenance
    1. Provide priorities to the OMC to allow for prompt review and initial approval/rejection to any new work requests.
    2. Participate as needed in the Daily Accountability Meeting (DAM) to Review new work requests for accuracy, completeness and clear description. Verifying the preliminary priority and the need date if known.
    3. Verify subordinates are generating new work requests for all operations identified equipment issues.
    4. Oversee and approve the development of LOTOs for upcoming shutdowns (departmentally).
    5. Participate in outage prep meetings to provide schedule review and scope selectin input.
    6. Assist with performance of Contractor Pre-Mobilization Check sheets as assigned.

  • Oversight and Management of Wood Yard / Fuel Yard, Sludge Processing Building, and Water Treatment Facility
    1. Maintain full O&M compliance for all areas per the approved operating plan
    2. Provide input to operating plan and budget development for the following year
    3. Ensure proper operation of all equipment by providing needed resources and oversight.
    4. Full supervisory responsibility of all Woodyard Operators and AO2s, including training and performance management of each.
    5. Ensure proper operation and maintenance of all equipment. Coordinate all repairs and maintenance for all equipment.
    6. Provide leadership and direction for all vendors and contractors related to the successful operation of the equipment.
    7. Responsible for upkeep and repair of various mill settling ponds including Sludge Pond 1, Sludge Pond 2, the annex Pond, and others as assigned.
    8. Work with the Environmental Group to ensure discharge and water usage are withing the approved permit levels. Provide early identification of trends or activities that could challenge the state permits.

What you need to succeed:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in power generation in biomass technologies and water treatment operations.
  • In depth knowledge of the operation and maintenance of the following equipment at a minimum:
    • Pumps
    • Belt Conveyors
    • Screw Conveyors
    • Screw Presses
    • Clarifiers
    • Aeration Basins
    • Chemical water treatment
    • Potable water systems
    • Heavy Equipment
    • Wood fuel processing equipment including truck tippers, hogs, disc screens
  • In depth knowledge of procedure writing including standard operating procedures and maintenance procedures
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Georgia Water Treatment Licenses as required
  • Detail oriented
